  • Oct. 12 1938 Dear Leonard Not having heard to the contrary I was assuming that you arrived home intact. Confirmation of my faith was recently received from Klamouth. Nothing of moment has happened since you left until recently. For the first time in weeks, except one hurried trip to market, I went to town yesterday. My principal errand was to the Hospital to see Lucy. She is there all day & until 11 P.M. with Leonard. They have a night nurse from 11 P.M. to 7 A.M. Lucy goes at that time to sleep in Ethel F’s room on Eddy St., so she can be within call. Leonard was operated on last week for mastoid, right side; the Drs. had changed bandages & removed the drainage tube just before I went in, so that wound must be doing all right. The nurse came in to get blood from him & Lucy to test for blood transfusion. He has had so much nose bleed (one lasted an hour) they did not dare operate again without the transfusion.
