In this letter of May 18, 1933, Laura Kephart writes her son, Leonard Kephart (1892-1988), one year after the death of Horace Kephart in an automobile accident. Laura asks Leonard to check on copyright information on two of Horace’s books, Camping and Woodcraft and Our Southern Highlanders, and she proposes the addition of a new chapter to each. Laura discusses familial matters, giving general updates to Leonard on the rest of the family, and politics. Also included in the envelope with this letter were two newspaper clippings from the Christian Science Monitor and cancelled German stamps from two different envelopes. The first clipping is a photo of a couple using a bicycle pump to blow up a tent with the title “Campers Build Their Own Air Castles.” The second clipping is an article about vegetable fibers being added to concrete to reinforce steel.
