  • In a letter to Horace Kephart on March 31, 1922, detective Elmo W. Brim regrets to inform Kephart that Judge Ellis Gardner, their lawyer for the B. L. Harsell case, is sick and may have to go to the hospital, therefore the court date has been delayed. He hopes that the Revenue raids will expose wrongdoing.
  • Galax, Virginia. 3 - 31 - 22. My dear Mr. Kephart: Tough luck, we will not be at Bakersville for Court. Judge Eliis Gardner, Mr. Harsell's attorney, is sick, and will possibly have to go to the hospital. I have but little hope for a case where there is such a delay in getting it to court. But the Revenue raids and investigation may develope something in our favor. I hope so. I am writing you so you may receive the letter in time to alter you plans in case you desire to do so. I trust I may later have the pleasure of meeting you. Sincerely, s£>L~^y+-^>
