Dec. 6, 1948 Dear Leonard - If you have time & only the two of you in the car, it would be possible for you to pick up your father’s things in Bryson City. There should be 20 loose leaf note books, a bundle of letters that would just about go in a two foot square bundle, a small shelf full of books & maybe a few little odds & ends. The note books are the most valuable. Who gave any one authority to sell them? Where is the money paid for them? I never received any of it & naturally gave no receipts. Also where are the $60 plus I.K. collected for the marker on the grave

In this letter of December 6, 1948, Laura Kephart writes to her son, Leonard Kephart (1892-1988) to ask him if he could pick up his father’s things in Bryson City. She says there should be 20 notebooks, a bundle of letters, some books and a few odds and ends. She expresses concern over what has become of these things as well as the $60 plus that I.K. Stearns collected for the grave marker.
