  • August 27, 1936 Dear Leonard It is well you came the week you did. The next Sat. (22nd) Lucy went to Buffalo to see Ethel through an appendix operation. She, Lucy, was put to bed in the Hospital and had an operation Mon a.m. two hours after Ethel’s. Lucy’s operation was to finish the job done at Clifton Springs several years ago I felt at the time the whole thing – uterus and all – should come out but the C.S. doctors per- suaded K and L to the contrary. When Karl went to the Lake Sat. to bring the family home, he found Lucy was in the Buffalo Hospital. He went right on to B. Sun. He returned to the Lake, packed up the children, took them to Batavia where Fritz met them. K went back to Buffalo. Fritz brought the children home, arranged with Quinta to keep an eye on things; got
