Plainfield & she needed help. Karl was ready to go to the office so they took me down. Then Lucy returned to Lurch Farm & collected all the children to take them to the Mutt Parade at 10 a. m. things just whirled & spun all day. Lucy’s Mrs. Van Kirk was away on a few days vacation & Mrs. Pew was holding the fort. She proceeded to get sick Sun. night & was in bed yet when we left at 3:30 P. M. Have not heard how things have come out. Hope Lucy has not had to overdo as she is better than she has been for years. Meanwhile instead of staying another day in Ithaca and coming home quietly, she had to get back to collect [Dun]can Terfruring who is staying here while his pa is in Baltimore. That is another tale – hectic but too long to tell. Much to our surprise we have had several communications lately from Pauline; all most -friendly & interesting. The boys are doing themselves proud & she is deep in P. T. A. Finally came a short letter from George which says his work may take him near

In this letter of April 23, 1937, Laura Kephart writes her son Leonard Kephart to give him the news of the family and send him a newspaper clipping titled “Idiomatic Speech of Elizabeth’s day is Found in South.” She shares that Laura Thronborough has written a guide to the Smoky Mountains and goes into detail about why she could not make it to his house.
