Horace Kephart to Dear Charles, January 28, 1893

In this letter of January 28, 1893, Horace Kephart writes Charles in response to a question about Professor Hadley of Yale. Kephart does not think he would be content at a job outside of Yale. Kephart tells Charles that they will not be travelling east this summer as they are expecting their fourth child, and explains he is looking for two new assistants if he can recommend anyone.

Jan. 28, 1893 Dear Chas. – I know Prof. Hadley of Yale, though not intimately. In my day he was very popular, though just why I don’t know. He is a scholar and a gentleman. Personally, seems to be a pleasant enough fellow. Has a nervous way of catching his breath, before each sentence, as though it were trying to get away from him, that is disagreeable till you get used to it. He belongs to one of the old families that made Yale and are Yale. Doubt if he could be induced to leave, and think he would not be contented if he did. We will not come East this summer as no. 4 is expected before long. Mrs. Mack & Julie are to arrive this evening. We are all well, and send kindest regards to you and your sister. I am to have two new assistants @ $9.00 each; a young man for issue-desk, and a lady cataloguer to help Miss Sanborn. can you recommend anybody? Fraternally, Horace Kephart
