  • gFumez " "~~ SUPERVISOR. JUNE 4 HOUSE MOUNTAIN Here's a delightful, comfortable time for a Spring picnic. Just the tonic for a touch of Spring fever. A very interesting hike outside the Great Smokies is that to House Mountain. From the top of this mountain one can view the Great Smokies, Holston River, and the peaceful valley to the north with the Cumberland Mountains in the distance. The trail is good, but a little steep in a place or two. Drive out Washington Pike about fifteen miles, near Corryton. Turn southward from the main highway to the north base of the east end of the mountain. Leave Dixie System at 8:30 a. m. Take food for one meal. Round trip hiking distance about three miles. Leaders: BESSE GEAGLEY (2-2103) CHAS. I. BARBER (6-1562) And hills rise over hills, and mountains oxer mountains, heaving, loaving, swelling, in most glorious, overpowering, unreadable majesty. —John Muir 34
