COOPER (2-3872). January 18 DUPONT SPRINGS Dupont Springs is just the right kind of hike for this time of year. Most of us have enjoyed the fine view seen from the Springs, but few have actually climbed to the top of the mountain. So this year we shall leave Saunders System at 8;00 o'clock and drive out the Se- vierville Pike, turning right at Chilhowee Institute, to Reagantown, where the cars will be parked, and the hike will begin. We shall eat lunch at one of the springs near the old hotel site, and immediately afterwards two hiking parties will be formed. One group will make the climb to the top; it is a steep trail, a bit rough, but not too long. There is another superb view from East End, which is easily reached by a level pathway past the Sunset Rocks. The second group will walk out there. This will be a fine jaunt for those who do not care for a hard climb so soon after lunch. From Chilhowee on a clear day, one may see a vast panorama — the long and lofty State-line Ridge to the south, LeConte and English Mountains to the southeast and northeast, and perhaps Knoxville to the north. Leave Saunders System at 8:00 A. M. Bring lunch and canteen. Leaders: THRESSA HICKMAN (2-3663) and WYLIE BROWNLEE (3-9918).
