  • your most interesting and special type of mind has never ceased to appeal to me, and I want to see it developed along original and creative lines. My dearest boy “Dick” has a wonderful gift in that direction. For two or three years, we have had almost every week missionaries from some foreign field here, mostly from Africa; two are here now from Angola, South Africa, they are going to speak tonight. Of course every one almost without exception say where can we get some one with a creative mind, who can and will work out things as you have done, take the African products and work them up. I can get plenty of book chemists, those who can follow the book and work out just what the book says, but I fail to find the creative mind except in one person who was one of our teachers. He studied with me two years and is now taking his M.A. Degree at Drake Univ. in Des Moines Iowa. I have recommended him to Mr. Sibley. I have another young man hear our teacher of Entomology, who seems all enthusiasm but I doubt if he will do, he seems to have
