  • fetch some things for any soldiers, you may get to come on the cars for half price by fetching things for them. But it will be an expensive trip. But if you want to come, come on. I am making 20 dollars a month now. The Capt. now appointed me Orderly Sargent of this company, but you need not say any thing about it now. For the election, I am going for Vance for Governor, Capt. Dickerson for the Senate, Capt. McDowel and B. Washburn for the Commons. I am not satisfied to support all of them men for reasons that I shall not mention now, but it is the best I can do. I think when Wm. Jones comes back I want you to send me some onions if you have any. Dry all the fruit you can. It will bring the cash. Make all you can and if I never get home I hope you will enjoy it much. I can inform you that there is the best farmers in Va. I ever saw. If I was at home I could learn you something about farming. I think I want you to get Martha Hamilton to plat me a summer hat and send it by Wm. Jones, one that will fit Pap or a little larger will suit me. You can pay her for it. A summer hat here is worth 10 dollars. Write soon, so I must close. If you want cotton cards let me know it. I can get them here for 10 dollars. Nothing more. Write G. J. Huntley
