pair of britches. But you need not send them three garments till I write for them, as I don't need them now. When I want them I will write, but I want you to send me one pair of socks and some Black Powders as soon as soon as you can. Alpherd Harrill is here this morning in camp. Tell Tolliver Hughes he must write to me. Wm. Jones is well. I would like to be at home and help make corn if the times was settled. As for getting a transfer, except Pap was to come, I shall not try hard, and I want him to stay at home. As I have nothing of interest to write, I must close. If you was down here you would see a power that would be interesting to you. I think I can make a nicer biscuit than you or Mom either. If I ever get home we will try it at any rate. I would like to know what part of the plantation you have in corn. You must excuse bad writing and spelling as I have wrote in a hurry without taking any pains. In this letter of April 15, 1862, G. J. Huntley writes to his friends in care of his sister Tincy Huntley from his location near Goldsboro, NC. He asks about Tolliver and if his clothes made it home, and is interested to hear about life back home. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
