  • Inspirational Choir Sings His Praise The WCU Inspirational Choir offers spirtual upliftment to all who hear them. The choir has shared Christ's message through song on campus and throughout North Carolina. The choir has performed at campus church services, Wingate Community Church of God in Wingate, NC, Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Asheville, and at Campus Rock Ministries' "Shout At The Dark". The sixty member choir is led under the direction of Ernest Jefferies and assisted by Sam Williams. Jefferies and Williams direct the choir in a repertoire of contemporary and traditional gospel songs. The choir sings gospel greats such as , "Come Thou Almighty King" and "Order My Steps". Choir president Felecia Home said, " I enjoy singing God's praises and the chorl an opportunity for me to do so." Home, who also served as president of the choir last year, hopes to plan more concerts this year. Many plans are in the works for the spring semester as the choir prepares to be busy doing God's work. The choir along with the Black Theater Ensemble will tour Florida and North Carolina on a high school recruitment tour during spring break. The choir will also open a performance for the Tri-City Singers of Spartanburg, SC. The choir has a long history at WCU. Orginally founded as a branch of the Organization of Ebony Students the choir branched off in 1973, and will celebrate its' 22nd anniversary this spring. -Jermaine Baxter & Heather Sheppard Financial Facts The spring semester is creeping up slowly, and so is the chance to get financial aid assistance for the 1996-97 academic year. To receive assistance simply go the the financial aid office and pick up the free application form at the beginning of the spring semester. According to Terry Jeffries, the scholarship coordinator in the financial aid office, about 58% of Western students currently 6 receive financial aid. The financial aid packages include unsubsidized and subsidized loans which must be repaid after graduation. Pell Grants are awarded to eligible students and do not have to be repaid. Summer school supplement is also available and those forms can be picked up in March. Feel free to contact the financial aid office for questions or more information. -Lenny Kirkendoll
