SYLVA NORTH CAROLINA I SUBSCRIBE FOR THE YODEL. LINES COMPOSED FEW FEET FROM THE MOORE HALL Granting Apologies To Wordsworth. One month has passed; thirty days, with the length Of thirty weary nights, mingled among With four dull Sabbaths and as many Mondays, Since we two weary maids, not tired from work Or strain of daily duty—for that was pleasure!— But wearied with the daily monotony Of things, which once indeed to us were joy, Do now atone for breaking social rules. The suffocating walls seem closer drawn, Until—the fresh and fragrant air cut WE APPRECIATE THE BUSINESS GIVEN US BY THE FACULTY AND STUDENTS OF CULLOWHEE. WE WISH FOR "THE CULLOWHEE YODEL" THE SAME SUCCESS THAT IS BEING ATTAINED BY THE CULLOWHEE NORMAL & INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. WE HAVE ATTAINED OUR SUCCESS BY EFFICIENT SERVICE, CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT, AND PERSONAL INTEREST. To breathe were naught but pain itself unsoothed. How strange, yea, how remote sounds freedom's name, Which now, alas, forsooth to us is foreign, Something apart, estranged, not in our reach! We therefore venture forth as would the hare, Fearful lest we by wandering too far Beyond the well known bounds of safety Might chance upon disaster worse than this, Our present state. Therefore as one resigned To cruel fate's inevitable share of We resolutely turn our backs to that Which otherwise to us erstwhile seemed sweet, And slowly passing on ■ into Moore Hall Work up assignments for another day. —Two of Fate's Favorites. Luck, Jr., and Coleman Luck, of Augusta, Ga., and Dan Tompkins, Editor of The Jackson County Journal, Sylva, N. C. OUR LOSS, BUT HEAVEN'S GAIN A Good Woman Goes To Her Eternal Reward. The almost sudden death of Mrs. F. A. Luck, of Sylva, brings deep sorrow to many hearts in this entire section, where this good and noble woman spent the greater part of her beautiful and influential life. Intellectual, refined, gracious, loving, and sunny-natured, she was an inspiration and a blessing to all around her. At the ripe age of eighty-two, with her remarkable powers hardly impaired, she heard a voice saying, "The Master is come and calleth for thee." She who had served that Master so long and loyally was fully ready and willingly went to be forever with her Lord. Members of the family surviving her are one sister, Miss Lucy Coleman; four daughters, Mrs. Annie Tompkins, Misses Addie, Sadie, and Lucy Luck, all of Sylva; one son, STUDENT'S BUDGET ITEMS Overhead Expenses—Hats and Hair Nets.
