BUCHANAN, JR.! GARAGE Miss Cassie Wallace, Class of 1919, who has been teaching in the Demonstration School for the past three years, has just entered the University of North Carolina, where she intends to spend some time in special training for her work. It will no doubt be interesting to know that Miss Wallace is the daughter of one of the first graduates which this institution turned out, namely, Mrs. C. A. Wallace, formerly Miss Lena Smith, Class of 1893. Other members of that Class were as follows, there being in all five: Hon. Welch Galloway, Brevard, N. C.J Mrs. Lee Leach, formerly Miss Fannie Rogers, Franklin, N. C; Miss Ida Smith, Cullowhee, N. C; and Miss Beulah Smith, deceased. The father of Miss Wallace was a member of the second graduating class, the Class of 1894, and was for some time a teacher in the institution. He was the founder of the Columbian Literary Society, and his picture now appears in the society hall and on the society em- Mrs. W. W. Brown, Class of 1897, who was formerly Miss Nancy Wilson, and who married shortly after her graduation, is still residing in this community, in a beautiful country home, about a mile from the campus. Mrs. Brown has been active as a teacher and church worker in our community ever since she came here from her native County of Tran- Mr. J. Robt. Long, Class of 1898, is Cashier of the Bryson City Bank. Mr. Long is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Cullowhee Normal & Industrial School, and has been one of Cullowhee's most loyal and devoted sons. He is a native of Jackson County and of this com munity. He graduated in a class of eight young men, all of whom are making good. The other seven are: . Prof. F. H. Brown, Cullowhee, N. C; Mr. W. L. Henson, Sylva, N. C; Dr. D. D. Hooper, Sylva, N. C; Mr. M. Parker, Sylva, N. C; Mr. J. P. Moore, Ellijay, N. C; Dr. A. G. Pless, Asheville, N. C; Rev. T. B. Davis, Kinston, N. C. Mr. C. C. Buchanan, Class of 1899, is now a practicing attorney at Sylva, N. C, and is Solicitor of Jackson County Recorder's Court. While in school, Mr. Buchanan was much interested in society work, and was one of the best debaters in his society. After leaving school, he became interested in law and took a course at Chapel-Hill. Returning with his license, he "hung up his shingle" at Sylva, where he has been doing a successful business. Mrs. C. M. Davis, formerly Miss Laura Belle Coward, Class ol 1908, is residing at ISuckhead, Ga. She and her husband are selling good- ai that place. Mrs. Davis is remembered by her old friends here as one of the most versatile, charming, and popular girls in the community, as one of the brightest of her class. Since her marriage to Mr. Davis, who is also one of Cullowhee's former sons, she has resided at Robbinsville, Graham County, and in Seattle, Since her marriage to Mr. Davis, who giving way, came here to recuperate, whence he moved to Buckhead. where he is doing a lively business. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have a son, Kennon. who graduated from the High School Department of this institution last session, and who is now taking special work leading to a college degree. His average grade last year in his high school studies was the highest of any member of that department COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL TEXT BOOK COMMITTEE HAS BEEN APPOINTED In compliance with the State Law in the selection of high school text books for the public schools, the following committee has been appointed for Jackson County, whose duty it shall be to select from the state approved list the text books to be used in this County for the scholastic years, 1924-29: O.
