Habitat for Humanity has a massive impact on the communities it works within. The self- less dedication of the volunteers is complete- ly genuine and unique bonds are formed between Habitat, the families and the com- munity. Habitat has a way of making a lasting difference in peoples lives no matter their story or where they come from. ed Russell Although Russell was subject to once-in-a lifetime experiences in her base location, she expanded her opportu nities and traveled even further while abroad. After my two weeks in Spain, [left for my adventure to the mountains of France by Switzerland, in the Pre-Alps of the North (a rough translation), in a medium-sized town, Chambry. In fact, Russell chose the region of Se- villa because it was only an hour and a half from her old host family. She said that seeing her host family again was magi cal and continuously becoming more fluent in French enriched the entire experience As Russell was still working on her studies while overseas, she still had to follow a schedule, She talked about having Classes from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. After that, she was free to embrace her sur- roundings, She claimed that she didnt have to study much, but she did practice her French while she was out and about or conversing with other students who didnt speak English. While discussing her adventures, Russell mentioned her favorite moments from the trip. Visiting Cinque Terre, Italy, playing Pokmon Go overseas, traveling, seeing her host fam- ily again, having her mother come visit her Habitat for Humanity has varying locations that specify for an area or community. The one closest to Western Carolina University is Habitat for Human. ity of Macon/Jac} County. This Habitat also runs thrift stores in Sylva and Franklin, The stores raise money to support Habitats projects and always ave opportunities for volunteers, This is per- fect for someone want- ing to volunteer for the great cause but not interested in taking on a construction project. If you are interested in helping with construc- tion projects, Habitat ensures that you will be part of every step of the process as a volun- teer. Jennifer Cooper, Associate Director for department who have helped the local Habi- tat for Humanity plan the Spring Bloom and Build Festival. An- other example features students in the Entre- preneurship program who helped Habitat find a location and make a business plan to create the Sylva thrift store which is now called the Habitat for Human- ity ReStore. Students wanting to volunteer at one of the thrift stores can call the store at any time to setup a time to come in and help. Here at Western Caro: lina, students can also participate through our very own Habitat Col- legiate Chapter. This is a campus organization that helps Western Car- olina students connect with the Habitat proj- ects. For any student wanting to help with taking time out of your day to help others and witness the life-altering differences you are creating. Nothing will prepare you for the experience of volun- teering and you will not want it any other way, You will have so much fun making memories that will last a lifetime. All students are also welcome to come to Habitats Bloom and Build Festival on Sat- urday, April 1. It will be held in downtown Dills- boro with food, craft beer, live music, a silent auction and more.
