  • 32 WCnewsmagazine Western track & field post 33 podium finishes at WCU Invitational 3 By Andy Gambill WGnewsmagazine The Wester track & field teams finished April 1 with 44 fist place The Catamount men fnished with 341 points to beat Coastal Carolina's 220 fishes and 23 podium fishes to win the WCU Invitational. The men and and UNCA's 74. The Big South combined Total of 204 sone ook even close to women's teams finished with seven viclores apiece, while the men had 18 competing against Coach Wiliamson's excellently trained Cate, The Georgia Southem women's team combined with WCU's women {0 represent the SoCon on the women's side. The combo destroyed the competition as Western had 255 points to combine with Georgia Southems 185 and give the SoCon 440 points. That total easily beat Out the Big South total of 253, represented by Coastal Carolina's 213 and UNCA's 40. Sophomore Tangelia Johnson of Western won both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. In the 100, Johnson churned out an 11.82 to win, while in the 200-meter, she put up a 24.11. The 24.11 represents one Of the fastest times of the outdoor season. Raquel Ramseur finished first in 400-meter dash with a time of 54.96, and finished second in the 200-meter to Johnson with a time of 24.12. The time was only 1-one hundredth of a second off of Johnson's winning time, Junior Asia Davis won the 400-meter hurdles with a NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 59.56. The time represented a season best for Davis, Sophomore Kerrie Savery won the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.41 to edge teammate Annie Bailey's time of 2:21.80. Senior Deanna Kulesz broke her season best by nine seconds in the 3,000 meters with a time 9f 11:00.42 to round out the individual women winners. The final Catamount women's first place finish was by the 4x100 meter relay team of Johnson, Ramseur, senior Cassie Gentry, and Davis. The team ran a 45.72 to win and set the new Catamount Athletic Complex record. Other podium finishes for the women included Skye Aiello's third place finish in steeple, WCU's third-place finish in the 4x400 meter Felay race, Brittany Whittakers second place finish in high jump, Jessica Podium finishes and the women 18. The SoCon won the head-to-head match up _ Johnson and Angela Stark third place te in the high jump, Kulesz's third place with the Big South Conference as a result ofthe excellent Catamount effort. finish in the 1500 meter run, Jessie Wilson's thd place frish in pole vault, WCU was the only SoCon schoo! in the event, bu that didnot stop the Tifany Mack's third place fnish in long jump, Nicole Lopez's third Place finish Cats from beating both Coastal Carolina and UNC Asheville of the Big South. in shot put, Tara Tounzens second place finish in javelin throw, ca Lynsie - of AM CRON ome ag We dca Fe
