4 POLICE FILES WCnewsmagazine 5/5 Officers received a report that a cell phone was lost or stolen somewhere on campus on 5/5/06. A student reported his dorm style refrigerator missing after he left it in the bathroom for several hours to defrost. Officers received another report of a stolen band instrument (trumpet) that supposedly happened sometime over spring break. The trumpet was taken from the Coulter band locker area. Investigation continues. 5/7 Officers assisted the Jackson County Sheriffs Department at a Large Party off state road 1002 at a Fraternity House. One male (non-student) and one female (non-student) were arrested in the Creek Lot for possession of schedule Il drug, possession of Marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and] underage possession of malt beverage. 5/23 Officers are investigating the theft of a students wallet from her vehicle while it was parked at Central Drive Hall. 05/24 Officers are investigating a reported where a student parked his vehicle at the FPAC while attending a concert on approximately May 2nd and found the vehicle had been vandalized by someone scratching or "keying" the hood and trunk. 5/25/06 Following a traffic stop an intoxicated female was transported to the Sheriffs Office for an intoxilyzer test but was not arrested but was detained in jail for an assist until sober. 5/26 Officers arrested a non-student for No operators License, Fictitious Registration Plate and Fail to stop for a blue light and siren. A non-student passenger was charged for possessing an open container of alcohol in the passenger's area of the vehicle. 5/27 Officers are investigating an incident involving a dark color sport motorcycle failing to stop for blue lights and siren following an attempt to perform a traffic stops for excessive speed on HWY 107. 5/31 A non student received a citation for Open Container and DWI while in the Reid Lot at the UC. Officers issued a non-student a citation for an expired vehicle registration plate and expired vehicle inspection certification. During a minor offense traffic stop Officers discovered the driver, who is a student, had outstanding Fugitive Warrants from SC. The student was taken into custody and is being held in the Jackson County Jail with a $40,000.00 Bond awaiting extradition to SC. 6/4 A female who is registered to be a student in the Fall Semester was arrested for DWI after officers observed her driving on Forrest Hills Road. Officers issued a student a state citation for driving at a speed of 44 in a 20 MPH zone on Forrest Hills Road. 6/6 Officers observed a female student driving on Memorial Drive and issued a state citation for Driving While License are revoked. Officers assisted a female student in obtaining a Domestic Violence Order regarding an incident that happened off campus with her ex-boyfriend, who is also a student. She also was referred to the Jackson County Sheriffs office for investigation of the incident. Officers observed a non-student driving on Centennial Drive and issued state citations for no drivers' license, no insurance on the vehicle, displaying a fictitious registration plate and not registering a title within 28 days after obtaining the vehicle. Following an initial arrest of a non-student on 5/7/06 in the Creek lot for drugs violations, officers today (6/6/06) obtained and served an additional warrant for possession of cocaine. 06/07 Officers are investigating a report of several missing items from the Warehouse. 06/09 Officers investigated a minor traffic accident involving the Aramark Van and a delivery truck/trailer at the loading dock of Brown Cafeteria. 06/10 Officers issued a state citation to a non-student for no operator's license, an expired inspection sticker, and operating a vehicle with no insurance. 06/11 Officers issued a state citation to a non-student for failing to stop for a flashing red light. The police department is investigating possible vandalism after finding two patrol vehicles having screws in the tires.

The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
