M. j live music will be on the lawn in the form of Red Engine Nine, straight from the Jersey shore. Starting at 10 P. M. , activities will include model UN demonstrations and presentations in the Catamount Room, arts and crafts in the Chelsea Gallery, and fortune telling and tarot readings by the Women's Center, and drawings by a caricature artist and bingo on the second floor of the UC. The night will round out with another film in the Grandroom and a breakfast bar. All the while, free pizza, billiards, darts and foosball will be available in Illusions thanks to the UC with mocktails from Health Services, and board games will be available at the upstairs information desk. Western North Carolina will play host to nine Japanese educators from August 17 - August 25. The guests will get a first-hand look at the American institution of public education while continuing partnerships are fostered between Japanese and WNC schools. The effort is coordinated by WCU. This is the final stage in a three-year project funded by a $100,000 grant given by the United States-Japan foundation. While in this part of the world, the Japanese visitors from the Naruto region will be working with Fairview Elementary and Smoky Mountain High School, both of Jackson County; Tuscola High School in Haywood County; Isaac Dickson Elementary of Asheville; and Flat Rock and Rugby Middle Schools of Henderson County. WCU, ECU and UNC-Wilmington have partnered with Osaka University of Education, Hiroshima University and Naruto University of Education to form the Global Partnership Schools Consortium, which hosted the project. On August 26, all of the North Carolinian and Japanese educators who participated in the exchange program will gather in Raleigh for a summary conference to share their experiences and findings.
