The average individual has $2500 of credit card debt. So you can figure out how much debt the average four- person family has. To avoid credit card debt you should use them sparingly and be smart with balances when you feel you must carry them. Use your cards sparingly. Don't just use your credit cards for the sake of using them. Comedian George Carlin said it best when he said, "folks take my word for it raisinettes is not a major purchase!" Nobody should be paying some bank 18% interest on tic tacs! Use your cards for things you need like food and gasoline. Never ever charge more in one month than you can pay off. Always pay off your credit card balances in full every single month. This will help you avoid paying interest on cards which not tax- deductible. If you buy something that will hopefully produce income for you, which you must carry a balance for be smart about. Most banks love for you to transfer your balances from one card to another. This is called a balance transfer. If you transfer a balance to a card other than the one you made the purchases on the new card will give you much lower interest most of the time. This is a very smart move. Credit card debt can be a drag that is a given, what is not a given is that you must accumulate this debt and pay high interest on it. Be smart and disciplined and you can beat the odds. The absence of debt is a great relief. Just ask anyone who has it.
