  • newsmagazine Budding-for the Future news july 2002 Student Hous Western breaks ground for first new residence hall 30 years By: Chad Messer I WCnewsmagazine In a move that will come as a cardiac shock to those Western students who have spent two or more years stacked in dorm rooms like cord wood, WCU recently broke ground on what will be a new 300 bed residence hall on Central Drive, close to the Bird house. This is the first new housing project to sprout on campus in the past thirty years. The $14.7 million project, paid for by funds allocated from the 2000 higher education bond referendum, should be completed by the fall of 2003.
