  • March 28, 2001 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR WESTERN CAROLINIAN Student Hates Food, Price Dear Editor, I am so frustrated with the disgusting food we are forced to eat here on campus on a daily basis. School food sucks so bad and it's so outrageously priced, it's not worth paying for. The UC gets old after the first 2 months of your «„__ freshman year, Brown is so disgusting to eat at, you fear what your putting in your mouth. Dodson is so damn expensive you refuse to buy anything there. On campus food sucks so bad I don't even put money on my cat card. OFF CAMPUS FOOD: Off campus food isn't any better! Candler Sub and Deli is by the far the worst place I have ever eaten in my life or could even imagine eating in my life. There pizza isn't really pizza and their wings don't even have color to them. School food sucks so bad and it's so outrageously priced, it's not worth paying for. They are the only wings in the world without any color!!!! My friends and I agree that this place is by far the worst place in the world, absouletly disgusting. GJ's is alright but gets old and is HIGHLY OVER PRICED, HIGHLY OVERPRICED. Pizza Hut .»—— offers nothing, except a lunch buffet and Wednesday night buffet. They could be the only PIZZA HUT in the entire world not to deliever. Sylva has Colima's which is really good and offers a great lunch buffett and O'Malloy's is great for anytime but gets old. PLEASE IF ANYONE IS READING THIS, OPEN UP SOMETHING, HELP US, FEED US SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TWO YEARS. Thanks, Micheal Simpson Little Caesar's Should've Burned In Rome Little Caesar's are not worth ordering from... Dominoes and GJ's pizza are ... better Dear Editor, Little Caesar's is incapable and irresponsible business at night. I have interviewed people that work there, and they have informed me that Little Caesar's mess up orders ■ every night. My resources have also told me that they may mess up between two to four orders on any given night. I have experienced Little Caesar's "mess-ups." Little Caesar's has lost my order once this semester and messed up my order three times. Little Caesar's are not worth ordering from. It takes them approximately 1 - 2 hours, sometimes more, to deliver your food, and they are on campus. Dominoes and GJ's take about 30 minutes or less, and they have a much longer way to travel. Dominoes and GJ's pizza are a lot better than Little Caesar's as far as quality is concerned. They don't have excess amounts of flour on the bottom of their pizzas and they don't use excess amounts of sauce and then very small ___ amounts of cheese and meat. Not only that. This is where it gets interesting. Some of us have even heard of a law that prohibits state colleges and universities from having commercial businesses, such as Little Caesar's and Chic-Fil- A. It affects the local businesses, and therefore the local economy. So just remember that the next time your hungry for pizza and don't feel like waiting for 1 to 2 hours for it. Try Domino's or GJ's, you will be more content with their food quality and service. Sincerely, Kyle Raess Student Wants Off-Campus Housing On Campus |$ |t Safe To Walk Yet? To whom this may concern, As a student here at Western Carolina University, I think that opinions from the students on how to improve the campus facilities are beneficial and my suggestion is to have apartment housing on the campus. Having apartments on campus for students is not extreme at all. Many colleges have this priviledge of living in an apartment on campus and I think it would be another step in the right direction for WCU. Housing in an apartment on campus is not that farfeched. It may take lots of money, time, and space, but jf I'm not mistaken, I think we have all of those. The question is whether it is ok to take a student, who has heard this suggestion all over campus, and understand that this would be another advantage in bringing more students to WCU. Having to drive five minutes to your house or apartment gets "old" and Western is becoming a "new" and improved college, so why not add a few apartment buildings or even condo style homes? Having this access of living on campus and not have to be in a dorm, is a process that is not going to happen overnight of course, but it is something to consider for the future. This suggestion is just something that has been talked about all across campus and I think it should at least be considered as many other things are as well. If I'm correct, this is a state governed school and may not be able to have the choice of more housing on the campus, but there is nothing wrong with trying to get out of a cracker box room into a nice place and still be on campus. If there are no restrictions to build housing on the campus, then what is the hold up? Students pay a great deal of money to come to college and I think that having a good place to live in effects many people's choice on whether attending WCU or not. The dorms are ok, but wouldn't it be nice to have the choice of dorm room or an apartment or condo to live in? Some people say that living in a dorm will build character and personality and help you deal with problems, but I think as a college student we have enough problems other than living in a hole in the wall and learning things to become a better person. Overall, look at what building apartments will do for this campus and then look at what it might hurt, and compare. Nicole Loggins Dear Editor: Pedestrian have the right a way, right? NO, here at WCU there are some people that do not understand the concept of stopping at a crosswalk. Have you ever been at a crosswalk, and had someone fly by you as if you were not there? I know I'm not the only one that this has happened too. I think people need to realize what crosswalks are for, Pedestrians! They are supposed to be safe places for people to cross the road, but do you really feel safe? I'm sure there have been many of times when you have tried to cross the road but could not due to cars not stopping. If you keep on walking and the cars have to stop they honk their horn at you or say something rude out the window, because it is supposedly your fault for them having to stop even though they should stop and yield to you. What is the point in having a designated place for people to cross the road if it is no safer then if they cross some place where there is no crosswalk? I think the biggest problem is at night, it is dark, and most people do not wear bright colored clothing so it is hard to see them. There have been many incidents where I have witnessed someone trying to cross the road at night when cars fly by and almost hit the person all because they do not take time to look out for pedestrians or slow down. When you approach a crosswalk you should slow down to see if there is anyone waiting and even if there is not you should still proceed with caution.
