  • February 23, 2000 NEWS WESTERN CAROLINIAN 3 C A M P ,.U s If the Presidential election was held today, who would you vote for? Frank McNeil, Senior Greensboro, NC I would vote for Al Gore. The reason for this is that Gore is vice-president to Clinton, one of the best presidents of our time. Coming from this background, he knows how to get things done. Julie Prudhomme, Sophomore Fayetteville, NC I would vote for McCain. I think that he has good ideas and I believe in what he says. Byron Raphael, Sophomore Sanford, NC John McCain, because he looks good in a suit. April Bone, Senior Gastonia, NC George Bush because he makes the most sense so far. John Amos to Bring "Halley's Comet" "Halley's Comet," a one-man theatrical tour de force starring well-known television and motion picture actor John Amos, will hit the stage of Western Carolina University's Hoey Auditorium at 7:30pm Monday, Feb. 28. Amos was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in the television mini-series "Roots," and is probably best known for his role as indestructible father James Evans in the situation comedy "Good Times." In "Halley's Comet," Amos tells the story of an 87-year-old man sharing a lifetime of memories with the famous comet he saw decades earlier as a child. He sets out in the wee hours of the morning, returning to the mountaintop where he first saw the comet. Amos then proceeds to take the audience on a journey through time, beginning at the turn of the century, through two World Wars, fast food restaurants, and the Civil Rights movement. He transforms himself into a parade of characters, including an 87-year-old patriarch, a young soldier in the middle of a blood- chilling World War II battle, and a newly freed Liberian slave. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and WCU employees, and $5 children and non-WCU students. Western students with valid identification cards will be admitted free of charge.
