/ * * f « Car linian Getting to Super Bowl May Be Tough for Some Contenders I Fly Nowhere: The Broncos, Vikings, Falcons, Packers, Bills, and Steelers better go ahead and cancel any plans they have of going to the Super Bowl. Southwest Airlines, the official airline of the NFL and Super Bowl XXXIII, does not offer service to or from Super Bowl host city Miami, Denver, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Green Bay, Buffalo, or Pittsburgh. In addition, other NFL cities not included on Southwest's service routes are: New York, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Boston, and Buffalo. Maybe John Madden's bus is the way to go. Speaking of Airlines: Why can't we get football scores 37,000 feet in the air? Airlines are one of the most technologically advanced industries operating today. They can fly us to Europe in only a few hours. They can track our luggage ——^—^— to its exact resting place when they lose it. They can rig their jets with phones and phone jacks to keep those uptight business types updated on what's going on on the ground. But they can't tell the lowly coach class passengers the score of the Falcons/Rams game. This particular flight had almost 300 Don Costello passengers and if they each paid an average of $300 per seat then the airline made $90,000, not including the fee for transporting various donated organs and scarce artwork. Think they could afford a subscription to the SportsTicker to flash up on the bottom of the video screen that plays dull, boring movies that couldn't win honors at the Ulan Bator Film Festival? Name of the Weak: Kansas State's defensive lineman Joe Bob Clements. Two first names is kinda fitting for someone who will be playing in a bowl game in Texas. BCS for WCU?: The final results are in and Western Carolina ranks 145 in the Sagarin Football Ratings with a score of 47.76. The Cats edged out Murray State for the slot but still stand .7 points behind Northern Illinois, a Division I-A program, and ——— 52.63 points behind top- ranked Alamo Bowl-bound Kansas State. Unfortunately, Western didn't receive a call Sunday from the Bowl Coalition asking for our appearance in the Fiesta Bowl. Apparently, schedule strength and the absence of a Tostitos vendors in the cafeteria hurt the Catamounts chances. Maybe next year. <><l<«««t^ni<l<«<t<UWI<«<«<t<t<t<Ut<4«^t<i«^<H«<«<««-<4^<M««'<H»«<H«<t<«H««<««<t<t<t. 3 PLAY GOLF FOR THE CATS 2 <^Ss^^gyz!rz^iC^<s>Z^ Total of a* plays at great golf courses!
