  • 10 bsports February 25,1998 by Greg Iredell Welcome back to the Scoop. This week's article is dedicated to me for doing this article for over a year now. On Saturday night, Stone Cold Steve Austin entered to a standing ovation. Jim Ross asked him about Stunnering Chyna. Austin stated that Chyna should've known that when "you step through these ropes, your ass belongs to me!" When asked about Tyson at Wrestlemania he stated, "It's like I said before, if you stick your nose in my business, I'll knock that gold tooth out of your mouth and make a necklace." Tyson is scheduled to appear on Raw this Monday. Rocky Miavia, a.k.a. the Rock, attempted to patch things up with the Nation. He gave Kama, Henry, and D- low Gold Rolexes. Faarooq was upset with his gift. The Rock gave him a framed portrait of....the Rock! This picture eventually caused Faarooq to lose to Steve Blackman. Doc Hendrix was introduced as his old wrestling character, Freebird Michael P. S. Hayes. Doc was in front of his hometown fans when Kain came in and pulverized him. Owen Hart defended his European Title against NWA champ Jeff Jarrett. Hart not only won, but also got Jim Cornett in the Sharpshooter. On Monday's Raw, the Legion of Doom lost again. The tension of the recent string of loses caused Animal and Hawk to fight. I guess McMahon didn't read my column last week, because this is disgusting. The WWF is already weak at tag team and now the LOD is breaking up again! Speaking of the Outlaws, while they were leaving the arena and bragging about splitting up the LOD, their car was attacked by Chainsaw Charlie and Cactus Jack. Jack bashed the windshield with a bat as the Outlaws drove off. Gold Dust did a hilarious imitation of his father, Dusty Rhodes. He dressed in the polka-dot tights that Dusty wore in his WWF days. Gold Dust lost to future star Bradshaw, who will get a major push up in the rankings. Faarooq helped the Rock get beat by Blackman in a non-title match. Major problems in the Nation. The HeadBangers won the NWA tag belts from the Rock and Roll Express. Wrestlemania will be a haven for fallen sports legends. Adding to Tyson, McMahon has announced Pete Rose will be at ringside. Both these guys have done time. Sable and Luna squabbled to end the show. More on Wrestlemania next week. See ya! western ■ • • arolinian Lady Cats Wrap Up Regular Season by Don Costello Looking for one more tune-up for the Southern Conference Tournament, the Lady Catamounts rolled into Asheville Monday evening looking to avenge the New Year's Day loss to UNC Asheville. They departed Asheville later that evening with another win, 69-60, and their third win in four tries. Junior forward Beth Currence led the Catamounts with 20 points, 14 in the second half. Currence showed great versatility as she hit three shots from beyond 15 feet, drove by the defense for layups and got to the line. Eight of her points came on a perfect performance from the charity stripe. Fellow junior forward Willow Russell put her long range ability on display as she connected on a key three-pointer with 3:47 remaining to put the Lady Cats up 54-45. Russell then buried an 18 foot jumper a minute later to put WCU back up by nine before the Lady Bulldogs were forced to start fouling. "One of the reasons we run the high-low offense if because our post players have good outside range," remarked Head Coach Maria Fantanarosa on the outside games of Currence and Russell. "They have the green light to shoot the three (pointers)." Senior LaSha Jackson ended her regular season career with a double-double, ten points and 11 boards. The Lady Cats' two leading scorers, April Fleck and Karen Mason, struggled from the field, hitting on only 6-of-25 shots combined. Fleck and Mason were, however, key performers, along with Tamara McMahan, in breaking the UNCA full-court pressure. "We're getting more and more confidence against the press and when we do that we tend to perform well on the offensive and defensive ends," commented Fantanrosa. Western will now make the cross-state trip to Greensboro for the Southern Conference Tournament which gets underway Thursday evening. The Lady Cats' first contest will be Friday at 6:00 pm against the hometown team, UNC Greensboro. The game will be at Fleming Gym on the campus of UNCG. Norman West Cullowhee Real Estate Cats Trounce Trojans; Final Home Game for Three Seniors by Daniel Hooker Ten days after the Western Carolina men's basketball team was used by an upper- division team, the Clemson Tigers, for a "glorified practice," it was the Cats' turn to pound a lesser team. The NCAA Division II Anderson College Trojans of Anderson, S.C, were the Cats' "appetizer" before they will be turned loose in Greensboro, N.C, for the Southern Conference Tournament. Western won the game with ease, 95-65. This game is similar to the one in which defending Southern Conference champion Chattanooga employed last season. For the record, UTC made it to the Sweet Sixteen in last year's NCAA Championship Tournament. The game also marked the last home game for three seniors. Joel Fleming, Jarvis Graham, and Bobby Phillips played their last game in front of the friendly Ramsey Center crowd. "I wanted to finish the regular season with a positive; our seniors got to go out on a L AST HOME GAME, CONTINUED ON PAGE 12 The area's only Cullowhee, Tuckaseigee and Canada Real Estate Specialist We welcome all WCU students, staff, faculty and alumni.
