  • Western Carolinian September 28,1995 News Public Safety Highlights •9/15 Members of the WCU EMS team reported that they may have struck a car while driving to a call at 1:22 pm. •At 1:00 PM on Friday, staff members at Smoky Mountain Mental Health reported that they had sighted the suspect in a theft of money from a purse in their offices which occurred last week. Officers responded and arrested a male student who admitted the theft. Court date is set for October 10 in district court in Sylva. •A tractor-trailer attempted a U-turn from the loading dock at Brown onto Central Drive and got stuck on the lawn in front of Albright at 7:10 pm on Friday. Damages will be assessed by the Physical Plant. •Officers found a student in violation of the campus alcohol policy and issued a warning at 1:07 am on Saturday. •Officers responded to a report of two females trying to break into Scott Hall at 5:32 am on Saturday. Officers found screens removed on the lobby windows, but no one it the area. •A DJ at the radio station reported that he had been threatened at 11 pm on Saturday. •An RA in Scott reported a fight in the rear parking lot at 11:45 pm. Officers found three male non-students in the area who admitted to fighting and asked them to leave. •Officers found two students violating the campus alcohol policy and and referred them to Student Development for disciplinary action at 12:03 am on Sunday. One of the students had been previously warned. •At 12:10 am on Sunday, a student reported that she had been sexually assaulted at a fraternity house on Thursday night. The suspect is known to her. The investigation has been referred to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department since it occurred off campus. •The Jackson County Sheriff's Department responded to fights at a fraternity house and at Park Place trailer park which involved some of the same students at 1:00 AM and 1:30 am on Sunday. •A student in Robertson reported that she was receiving harassing phone calls at 4:20 am on Sunday. .•9/19 Officers confiscated a machete from a student at the Baseball Field lot during tailgating activities on Saturday. .•Housing staff reported a small owl on the third floor of Helder at 12:44 am. Officers captured and released the owl unharmed. •Officers located the suspect in a hit & run incident which occurred at the University Center on 9/19. •A student in Helder reported that she was receiving harassing phone calls at 4:55 pm. •A student at Buchanan reported that her vehicle had been hit by a car that left the scene at 6:30 pm. •WCU officers provided an intoxilyzer operator for the Jackson county Sheriff's Department in connection with the arrest of a student for DWI at 4:20 am. •Three students were referred to Student Development for violation of the campus alcohol policy at 11:19 pm. •9/20 WCU officers provided an intoxilyzer operator for the Jackson County Sheriffs Department in connection with the arrest of a student for DWI at 4:20 am. •Officers responded to a report of a woman screamingat Scott at 1:32 am.
