  • February 2, 1995 Western Carolinian "Brenda's" continued from Page 2 was Brenda Ewart's. "Whenever I needed a soda, a snack, and a smile I would go see Brenda and chat a while/'said loyal patron Katherine Torrence. Brenda's has been a frequented stop for over ten years. Before she and her husband bought the store it was owned by Jimmy Smith, who now owns a store out in Tuckaseigee. There has been a convenience store in that spot for over thirty-five years. Now it will be empty. Richard Cameron, Director of Student Services at WCU, said, "Brenda's was very convenient for us, since we live in University Heights." "I can't believe they are shutting it down," said outraged undergraduate Joshua Dunn."Now Bob's and the Quickstop, on the other side of campus, will have the monopoly." Dunn is among many who are feeling the loss of Brenda's Mini Mart. "Brenda's provided a reliable service to WCU students and provided competition to Bob's which will now have a monopoly at WCU," said saddened Junior Brent Grass. News WCU Student Works at Disney World Erin Hogg StaffReporter As a part of Walt Disney World's continued support in education, more than one thousand students representing over two hundred colleges and universities attended the Walt Disney World College Program. WCU's own Scott Pridgen, a senior majoring in Graphic Design, was one of these lucky students. The College Program, which consisted of ten weekly seminars, allowed students to participate in exciting learning, living, and working experiences at Disney World. . Scott Pridgen was chosen to participate in this program last semester. His stay consisted of working in Disney's Epcot Center, as well as the Magic Kingdom. Working at several restaurants at Epcot, Pridgen saw a behind-the- scenes atmosphere of the giant theme park. "It was great," Pridgen stated. "It was a once in a lifetime kind of thing. Orlando is a great place." Pridgen's stay, which began in August of 1994 and lasted until January of this year, forced him to "realize that there is a lot more to learn in life." However, he had no complaints, and said that this experience "offers a lot for everybody."
