  • Entertainment The Western Carolinian Page 8 Thursday, April 20,1989 Ci Laser Light Show and "The Creek" Concert Holly Wheatley ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR by Colin Burch STAFF WRITER If you didn't go to the Out of the Darkness laser light show and the Creek concert, you really missed out. I mean you should have went. It was only three dollars a ticket, so you deserve to have this guilt trip put upon you. Get this: the people who do the Out of the Darkness laser light show did the light shows tor Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Michael Jackson, and George Michael. Reid Gym was filled with green and red beams of light while holograms and laser sketches filled a large screen. All the light movements were set to music, and they did some really cool, really creative things with the combination. For instance, "The Devil Inside" by INXS showed us a bright red laser devil playing the guitar in perfect time with the music. And for Bon Jovi's "Dead of Alive" we saw the video but with added laser lights stretching out from underneath the screen. With the concert clips of the video and the live laser show, it was similar to actually being in the concert. Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings" was accompanied by laser birds flying near the ceiling, off the screen. But toward the end of the light show, people were cramming themselves as close to the stage as they could get for the Creek show. If you like rock'n'roll, especially hard rock, and you chose to stay in your room tlr' night...you really screwed up! The Creek cranked up and rocked! They did an excellent job of playing songs by popular hard rock/metal bands, such as the Bullet Boys' "Smooth Up in Ya," Winger's "Hungry," Living Colour's "Cult of Personality" (awesome!), and other selections by Van Halen, Kansas, Loverboy, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, and BonJovi. But it would be cruel of me to not mention their own stuff. Everyone was telling me that the Creek's own songs weren't that great. Bull! Their own songs were definite contenders with the rest of their power-packed show. Granted the Creek isn't a famous band, they did an excellent job, of rocking everyone in the gym. Even campus security was getting rowdy (ha ha). While everyone is complaining that Last Minute Productions hasn't brought us a major concert in a while, I hope they bring the Creek by more often.
