The Western Carolinian Page 7 Thursday, February 23,1989 by Bill McEntire STAFF WRITER Dr. Steven Michael Ayers has been an assistant professor with the WCU Speech and Theatre Arts Department since 1985. He is married and prizes his family. "They are of the greatest importance to me," he says. "My wife Donna recently gave birth to our third child, a boy named William." Dr. Ayers is an actor, playwright, and director. His current project is Jesus Christ Superstar, which will premiere Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the new Hoey Auditorium. The play will also be shown Feb. 22 through Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Feb. 25. You may call the Ramsey Center at 227-7722 for ticket information. Dr. Ayers says of Superstar. He is also a veteran of film, television, and radio. Dr. Ayers' peers admire him. Dr. Temple Smith of the WCU Music Department and the musical director of Superstar says "Ayers is a talented individual, an indefatigable worker who willingly gives however much time it takes to achieve professional results from his students." Ms. Libby Trull, a dance choreographer of Superstar. She says that, "Steve's ability to communicate with people is excellent; he brings out the best in people." Dr. Terry Nienhuis, a WCU English professor and an Apostle in Superstar says "Steve is a good friend and a pleasure to work with. We are fortunate to have someone with his level of skills among us." Dr. Patrick McGuire, a Sylva dentist who plays the Apostle, Simon Zealot, says "Steve is positive about his job. He practices good management, is always humorous, and makes the kids laugh at themselves." Dr. Ayers can also laugh at himself. During a rehearsal of Superstar. Rachel Cox, an Apostle's woman signaled Dr. Ayers from the stage before a number was to begin. "The people at Jackson Hole will provide full days of skiing on hundreds of miles of runs, and Busch beer will sponsor races and ski activities that are both fun and responsible." Daily activities, all free, will include ski clinics for the beginner, ski races for the beginner and accomplished skier, as well as dance contests, treasure hunts, snow volleyball, golf croquet, dancing and live music. Jackson Hole Ski Resort is nestled in the Grand Tetons south of the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Two mountains are within the resort's boundaries. The vertical drop of the larger mountain, Rendezvous, is4,139 feet. In all, there are more than 60 designated runs and trails up to seven miles in length. For beginning skiers there are gentler slopes. Lodging is available in Teton Village, which lies at the base of the ski mountain, and in the town of Jackson, located 12 miles east of the slopes. Shuttle service will be provided to transport spring breakers from their lodges to the ski area. Jackson Hole Central Reservations is offering package rates for the Busch Ski Club vacation, including airline tickets, lift tickets, and lodging. Two example vacation packages being offered this year include: a three-day, four-night package ($435) and four-day, five-night package ($478). For more information, call 1-800- 443-6931. WCU defensive end Mike Simpson recently play in the CBS Movie of the Week "Unconquered," which aired Jan. 15.
