This is the theme of the play "Greater Tuna" which will be presented as a WCU Dinner Theatre production as a joint effort of the Speech and Theatre Arts Department and LMP. "Greater Tuna" features the talents of Richard Dudley, Roch Smith, and Director Jeree Buchanan all of whom have an impressive listing of credits. Richard Dudley has appeared in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", "True West", "Crimes of the Heart", and "Hedda Gabler". Roch Smith's credits include "A Long Days Journey into Night", "Night of the Iguana", as well as his role in the up coming ABC Movie of the Week, "Destruction of America". Jeree Buchanan has been directing at WCU for three years and is most noted for her direction of the award winning production "Agnes of God". These three artists are single- handedly putting on a production which portrays over twenty characters, has twenty-three costume changes, as well as managing the direction, production and set construction. The challenge of this endeavor, however, has not dulled the cast's enthusiasm or anticipation for the play's opening night. This enthusiasm was quite apparent at a rehearsal I attended last week which centered on a scene involving Tuna's 250 watt Radio Station. The play revolves around this radio station and isthe town's only source of information. This hilariously unenlightend news source will provide true insight to the inhabitants of Tuna Texas. Performance dates for "Greater Tuna" are October 7, 8, and 9. The October 7 show features the play only, October 8 includes dessert and beverage, and October 9 is the full dinner theatre. Reservations may be made, or information concerning the play may be obtained by calling the Theatre Department. Playwrights whose plays are chosen for reading will be notified of the reading date and invited to attend. The series is designed to give playwrights public exposure and to offer a forum for discussion and evaluation of individual works. REP will hold nine readings in '86- '87. The play judged the best will be produced in the summer of 1987. Mail inquiries and scripts (with SASE) to "Sunday in the Park with REP", 6905 Park Place, Raleigh, NC 27604. Keeter will be assisted by David Henson, sound and recording expert for the studios, according to Dr. Mark Rauch, center director. The seminar is part of a creative expressions course taught by writer Lewis W. Green at the center. Dr. Rauch said a fee of $40 will be charged for the seminar, which begins in mid-afternoon. Registration may be done in advance or beginning at 11 am the first day of the seminar. Keeter will teach the mechanics and processes that go into writing a film script, the realities of adapting it to the day-to-day needs of filming, doing retakes and script revisions, and the final preparation of what has been written and shot. Keeter and Henson will also do some "hands on" shooting techniques with video cameras on location at the center, with a rough script being prepared by students on the spot. Further information may be obtained by calling Dr. Rauch at the center at 1-800-821-0209,456-8022, or 926-3385. SubscribeloThe Wall Street Journal, and enjoy student savings of up to $44.
