Kahn To Work With Students Lawrence Hamrick, Jr. Staff Writer Student Government Association President David Kahn is rapidly moving to make SGA more responsive to all the students here at WCU. Kahn thinks that SGA needs to be more visible to the students and that students, clubs, and organizations must make themselves available to the student government so that the can get help that SGA can give with problems they might have. Cathy Stewart Staff Writer The 1983 sorority rush began August 29 with a "Meet the Greeks" party at the University Center Grandroom. The weeks' activities continued with open houses. All rushees toured sorority floors in small groups. Following is a list of continuing formal rush activities. September 1: Pick up Skit Party invitations and return them, accepting or declining. Rushees may accept no more than 3 September 6: Skit Kahn is striving to keep a more effective liaison between students and administration, which he thinks is very important when working with the administration on the students' behalf. Kahn also strongly believes that SGA- sponsored clubs and organizations should be better related; not by money but ideas, money-making projects and other helpful aids. Kahn goes further in saying "student government must be a resource for clubs and organizations as well as the students, but they must come to this resource and make use of it if we are all to work effectively." Kahn says he will run SGA professionally and will make it one of the most useful sources of information on campus. What's happening at the moment at SGA? Well, this Thursday a survey will be printed up and delivered to the students in order to find out what the students' wants and needs are. This survey will give students a chance to tell SGA what it is they need and would like to have in order to make their university a better place to live and grow. Both the President and the Director of Legal Assistance are working on a handbook designed to give off-campus as well as residence hall dwellers information pertaining to their right as tanants and residents. Presidential assistant Tony Glenn is right beside the President helping out as much as possible. Glenn states: "I'll be here to handle the work that the president does nbot have time for and to fill in when the need occurs." Glenn says he has projects of his own and expects to do much on his own to further carry out the president's goals for this year. Absences and excuses: to be eligible to pledge during formal rush, you must have met all academic requirements, attend all five open house parties, and attend every skit and preference party from which you accept an invitation. If for some reason a conflict arises, submit a writtern excuse to Cindy Hooper, Panhellenic Rush Chairman, 101A Walker, 227-4002, prior to the absence. Cindy will inform the sorority. This is necessary to enable you to continue in rush. Traffic & Security Director Richard Campbell on one of his many walks around campus.
