  • Activities Black Parents Weekend Black Parents Weekend, which has become a tradition at WCU. will be held October 2-4. This weekend provides an opportunity for black parents to visit the campus and interact in the Western campus experience. Activities range from a variety show entitled "A Culturing Experience" to a parent-student-faculty discussion session. This weekend has proven to be a learning and sharing experience and this year will be no exception. All students and faculty are urged to come out and make this weekend one to remember. The weekend schedule is as follows: Friday Miss Black and 7pm-9pm Grandroom Gold Pageant 9pm-lam UC Saturday Lunch 12:30-1:30 Dodson Variety Show Music/English "A Culturing Experience' 1:30-4:30 Auditorium Discussion Session 5:00 OES Office Football Game 7:00 Whitmire Stadium Sunday Church Service 10:00 Grandroom Forensic Society The National Forensic Society of WCU is an organization of students interested in oratory and dramatics, offering competitive events in both areas. For the orator. Persuasive, Informative, Impromptu, Extemporaneous and After-Dinner Speaking events are the general offerings. Persuasive and Informative Speaking involve the preparation of a 7-10 minute speech which either pursuades or informs, respectively. Simple enough! Extemporaneous and Impromptu Speaking involve spontanious preparation and delivery of speeches on a topic that is determined by lot at the time of delivery. After-Dinner Speaking offers the chance to speak in a humorous vein. The more dramatic events are Oral Interpretation of Prose, Poetry, and Duo lnterp. These areas require the reading of a selection of the appropriate literature for mood, story, and/or dramatic effect. The Forensic Society invites all interested indi\iduals to attend one of the meetings, held every Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., in Hoey 111. Young Democrats All persons interested in joining the Young Democrats Club should attend the meeting Tuesday, September 29, at 7 p.m. in the U C Grandroom State Representative Jeff Enloe will address the club. Kayaking Clinic Last Minute Productions will be holding an intermediate kayaking clinic on Sunday, September 27. This clinic is for paddlers who know the basics already and would like to sharpen their skills. Participants will meet Sunday morning at the University Center. We will head for the Nantahala River where we will spend the day paddling. Last Minute Productions provides all boats and equipment. Cost is $10.00 for WCU students. All you need to bring is your warm body. Sign up now at the L.M.P. office, first floor-University Center. French Club Meeting Are you interested in French language, travels, wines, cuisine or films?
