  • THURSDAY FEBRUARY 27, 1975 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Page 3 Frats to raise funds for Special Olympics Two Western Carolina University fraternities have announced their plans to raise funds for the WCU Special Olympics, an annual event for mentally retarded persons in western North Carolina, to be held this year on April 26. Theta Xi and Alpha Phi Omega fraternities will sponsor a 30-hour "radiothon" over radio station WISE in Asheville and a 48-hour "rockathon" on the Franklir town square. Both events wil begin at 6 p.m. February 28. During the Franklin event members of the fraternities wil rock continuously in a rocking chair to draw attention to their fund-raising efforts. There will be additional solicitations at Pack Square and Tunnel Road Shopping Center in Asheville, at Sky City Shopping Center in Waynesville, and in downtown Sylva. The WCU Special Olympics are open to retarded citizens of Buncombe, Haywood, Jackson, Swain, Clay, Henderson, Cherokee, Macon and Graham counties and the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Tax deductible contributions may be mailed to Special Olympics Fund, Drawer BG, Cullowhee, N. C. 28723. Coordinators for the fund- raising events ar e Jim Tate'of Kings Mountain and Kenneth Marshall of Hickory. Earthmen's honor club to charter A chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, national honor society in the earth sciences, will be installed here Thursday. Dr. Thomas H. Walker of the University of Mississippi will preside at the ceremony, which will feature the initiation of ten WCU students as charter members. Founded at the University of Kansas in 1915, the society now has more than 70 chapters throughout the United States.
