  • Activities Continued Society Of Friends Worship in the manner of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) will be held, beginning Sunday, September 6 at 10 a.m., on first and third Sundays every month at the Baptist Student Center in Cullowhee, next to the First Baptist Church. Friends are in the protestant Christian tradition but do not ordinarily have ministers. In areas where there are no organized meetings, they often form worship groups if a few can get together. Small worship groups are scattered across western North Carolina. The nearest is Franklin. Members of the Religious Society of Friends in Cullowhee, now that there are several Quakers in the area, are eager to begin worshipping together rather than commuting, as some have done, as far as Asheville to attend meeting for worship. The hospitality of the Baptist Student Center makes it possible for them to establish a Cullowhee Friends Worship Group. Traditional Friends worship convenes in silent expectancy, the group of worshippers listening with inward attention for the divine Word. As the silent worship proceeds and deepens, one or more worshippers may sense a leading to share a message and will speak out of the silence. Anyone interested in meditative worship with fellow seekers is invited to attend. Friends will be happy to answer questions about their beliefs and traditions. For further information, contact Elizabeth Addison (586- 9401). Theme Contest WCU's Homecoming Game against the East Tennessee Buccaneers will take place on October 17. A theme contest, co-sponsored by Residence Hall Coordinating. Council and Alumni Affairs will be held next week (September 8-10). The winning theme will receive a check for $50.00 from Alumni Affairs. Please submit suggestions for Homecoming themes by writing your theme on a piece of paper and dropping it in one of the theme boxes located in all residence hall lobbies and both cafeterias. OES Meeting There will be a meeting for the Organization of Ebony Students, Thursday, September 3 at 7 p. m. on the ground floor of the Old Student Union. College Republicans The first meeting this semester of the College Republicans will be on September 9 at 3:00 pm in the Dogwood Room of the University Center. All interested people are encouraged to attend. If there are any further questions please call 227-4809.
