Illustration by Tony Cole North Carolina Tarheels-NCAA Champions LAST MINUTE PRODUCTIONS/MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES NEWS RELEASE CHATTOGA RIVER CANOE TRIP APRIL 10-12 The Chat toga River is a wild and free flowing river. It is one of the longest and largest in the southeast and is the only mountain river in a four state area without substantial development along its banks. The river is accessible only at five points within the next 24 miles after the put-in. We will put in on Section II of the river which is classified as 1-2-3 difficulty. Most of the first day will be spent gaining the necessary experience to be able to paddle the harder sections proficiently and safely. We will continue on the second day down Section III which is classified as a class 2-3-4 difficulty level. There are a number of major rapids on this section with a lot of low class white water and flat water in between. Each major rapid will be scouted and all safety precautions will be taken into consideration. There will also be an experienced guide along on the trip who is very familiar with this river that will guide the trip. The total length of the trip will be approximately 20 miles long and will be broken up into 2 full days and V2 of paddling. Too, you should expect a moderately strenuous trip. We will camp each night along the river. There will be someone waiting for us each evening at camp with the van and all the equipment. All meals will be prepared and cooked by the group. The only prerequisite for this trip is that you have some swimming ability and you be in good physical health.I The price is $30.00 for students and $55.00 for non students. Price includes transportation to and from the river, food, canoes, camping equipment, and instruction. Sign up now at the Last Minute Productions Office, 1st floor of the U. C. ALL DAY BEGINNING CLIMBING CLINIC There will be a beginner rock climbing clinic on April 3 at Devils Courthouse. The beginning rock climbing clinic will offer a chance for you to learn the sport of rock climbing. Participants will spend the morning learning knots, belaying techniques, safety procedures and climbing etiquette. In the afternoon the class will travel to Devil's Courthouse for an afternoon of climbing. Participants should be in good physical condition and expect a strenuous day of activity. The price is $12.00 for students and $20.00 for non students.
