Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere A Review by Robert Porter Let me say first off that the Southern Rock Tradition is traditionally just what the name implies - a tradition. That point may seem obvious, but preserving the tradition is the name of this game. What the Allman Brothers started is far from finished. We have seen the rise and fall and the on again off again dexterity of the bands that make up the blanket term 'Southern Rock.' These groups (ZZ Top. Elvin Bishop, Marshall Tucker, etc.) are the essence and spokesmen for the South. First and foremost in the South is the surviving name of Lynyrd Skynyrd. What this timely group did is something that few Southern groups aside from super greats as the Allman company (refering to gradual subdivisions and revisions of the original group) and nationally acclaimed Charlie D. have done. Sweet Home Alabama - for all it's worth - is on the map again. For people who claim their home in the South's backyard, this is knosvn as progress. Progress - also, let me say that progress does not necessarily mean progressive - but back to the point - Progress is exactly what has happened since the fatal crash of the Free Bird. Now under the name 'The Rossington Collins Band." regroup is compiled, made up largely of former Lynyrd Skynyrd members. The two whose names credit the groups headline are Garv Rossington and Allen Collins, both of them being the guitar backbone of the group. Also in this tightly knit group are Leon Wilkenson (bass guitar) and Billy Powell (all keyboards), both of which are directly related to the Lynyrd Skynyrd fame. Yet still, there is Barry Harward (third guitar and backing vocals). Derek Hess (drums and percussion) and the leading lady Dale Krantz who compile the remainder of the performing group. Primarily though. Rossington and Collins' guitars along ssith Krant/'s dominating voice arc up front sound of the group - at least on their latest and onlv LP to date "Anytime. Anyplace. Anywhere." From the first measure on practically every song the listener is put into a time warp waiting on Ronnie Van Zant. As much as a lot of people wish it to be. there is only one alternative: but. one should not be totally discontented since the album, in the Skynyrd vain and tradition (there's that svord again), is a display of Southern Rock thai is perfectly seasoned even for hard core top forty fanatics. That, my friend, is called an accomplishment with the hint of progress to make up a great package on the behalf of a strong group of people - like manv people, this group has seen and felt pain. But. back to the album...The album is good - maybe good is a bad adjective, but if the shoe fits....
