  • WESTERN CAROLINIAN The Voice of the Students Thursday, September 27,1979 Vol. XLV, No.6 Western Carolina University's new University Ad-' ministration/Mountain Heritage Center will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 29). Dr. H.F. Robinson, WCU chancellor, will preside at the dedication ceremony, which is scheduled to be held in front of the building. Other participants in the dedication will include Lt. Gov. Jimmy Green, House Speaker Carl Stewart, State Rep. Liston B. Ramsey, chairman of the UNC Board of Governors William A. Johnson, UNC President William C. A special guest at the ceremony will be Zell Miller, lieutenant governor of the state of Georgia, who will speak at a formal luncheon following the ceremony. The $3.4 million structure was authorized in March, 1976, as WCU's share of a $43 million statewide bond issue for capital improvements in higher education. Its five stories enclose a total of some 72,000 square feet, housing nearly all of the university's administrative offices and providing work space for some 155 university employees. Nearly 12,500 square feet of the building's area are contained in the Mountain Heritage Center, which provides space and facilities for the study and portrayal Carolinian Artwork by Bart Bennett of the region's past. The building sits on a knoll on the west edge of the campus, where it will form part of the campus entrance when a new highway, now under construction, is completed. Architect for the building was Odell Associates Inc. of Charlotte. The general contractor was Buncombe Construction Co. of Asheville. Other major contractors included Industrial Maintenance Overflow Corp. of Hendersonville, plumbing; Overcash Electric Co.. of Mooresville, electrical; and Community Heating and Plumbing Co. of Greensboro, mechanical. The building was accepted for occupancy Aug. 6.
