  • Page 6 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/July 12.1979 A review 'Send me no flowers' succeeds despite shallow plot Bv ED DORAN Staff Writer WCU's Department of Speech and Theatre Arts production of "Send Me No Flowers" opened Tuesday night to a full house in the Little Theatre. The Norman Barasch—Carroll Moore comedy deals with a hypochondriac (George Kimball), who mistakenly thinks he is dying, which leads to several comical complications. Earl Willis portrayal of George starts off rather shakily, but as the play progresses Willis seems more at ease with his character, until by the end of the production, he is totally believable as the neurotic hypochondriac. Sherry Hodge does adequately, well in her role as Judy Kimball, but like Willis, her portrayal doesn't quite come off in the opening scenes. Charles Arney as Bert Power, has some great lines which he delivers well, although at times he seems to stomp through the scenes like Fratikenstien. Felix Batton has some good moments as Dr. Morrissev but at times did not appear comfortable on stage. By far the actor who squeezed the most laughs and life to his part was David Gaddy in his role as Mr. Akins. the burial plot salesman. Micheal Jones as Arnold Nash, the next door neighbor, did well during the drunk scenes but seemed rather stiff otherwise. All in all the production came off quite well in spite of the silliness of the plot and the shallowness of the characters. Every funny line got the desired laughs and the entire audience seemed to enjoy the play very much.
