  • PAGE 8/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/APRIL 19,1979 Keys to safe energy Educational camp on will be 27th to 29th The Carolinians for Safe Energy, Balsam Chapter, will join with the North Carolina Natural Guard for an educational Camp On Pisgah, April 27 through 29. The purpose of the camp-in is to draw statewide attention to the hazards of the mining-milling aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, and to point out the environmental degradation that could occur in the Pisgah National Forest, and western North Carolina in general, if indeed this area is mined. The Camp-In will begin at 8 p.m. April 27 with a general session in the Natural Guard tent that will include announcements, marshalls, medical, and speakers meetings followed by a Safe Energy Sing-A-Long. Saturday will be devoted to seminars, featured speakers, a nature walk led by a USFS ranger, and entertainment. Workshop topics include: a geological assessment of Pisgah National Forest; environmental assessment of prospecting and mining; biological hazards of radiation; alternative energy applications; legal advocacy; affinity groups; formation and structure; environmental sociology; mining, milling, and Minatome; peace/energy conversion and employment; conservation perspectives on uranium mining; and non-violent demonstration tactics. Sunday will begin with a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Beginning at 9 a.m. will be a march to a Minatome drilling site where a rally will be held and a symbolic eviction notice presented to Minatome. Those wanting to participate in what promises to be an educational and constructive endeavor are invited to attend the next local anti-nuclear meeting and planning session, April 18 at 7:30 p.m., room 113 Stillwell at WCU. Additional information may be obtained by calling Su Baumann, 586-8430. This action is being coordinated by the Safe Energy Alliance (SEA) in Charlotte in conjunction with the North Carolina Natural Guard. All peace conversion, anti-nuclear, alternative energy, conservationist and environmentalist groups in the southeast are encouraged to attend, participate in and/or lead workshops, and affiliate with the Natural Guard. » «fr ,, ■ ■ m f David goes a long way to bring you bargains!
