The February 14 performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. and will include four dances—"Pas de Quatre," with music by Cesare Pugni and choreograph by Anton Dolin; "Trio," by J.S. Bach, choreographed by Tom Pazik; "Catherine," by Benjamin Britten and Tom Pazik; and "Luminesque," with music by Saint-Saens and choreography by Robert Barnett. The February 15 performance, a 1 p.m. matinee, will consist of a lecture demonstration covering the history of dance. Both performances are sponsored by the WCU Lectures, Concerts and Exhibitions Committee. They are funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Grassroots Arts Program of the N.C. Arts Council, and the Jackson County Arts Council. Admission will be free to WCU students ana subscription series members of the LCE, $4 for other adults, and $2 for non-WCU students. The Atlanta Ballet was founded in 1929 by Dorothy Alexander, the first ballet company to be formed outside of New York City. In 1973 it was proclaimed the State Ballet Company of Georgia by then-Governor Jimmy Carter. It is one of only four American dance companies named a "major company" by the National Association of Regional Ballet. The company travels widely—more than 30,000 miles this year alone-and their annual production of the Nutcracker now has been seen by more than 2,500,000 persons. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
