  • PAGE 2/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/FEBRUARY 8, 1979 Carolinian newsbriefs Quakers to meet Beginning this month, a Quaker Worship Group will meet in the evenings at 7 p.m. every Sunday. Meeting at the Hinds University Center has proven to be expensive, so arrangements have been made to use the Wesley Foundation next door to the Cullowhee Post Office. There are several rooms on the upper floor which are of suitable size. Plans are to have a period of discussion followed by a period of silent worship. Howard Brinton's "Guide to Quaker Practice" will be discussed. If you have a copy, bring it along. Hopefully, changing to evenings will enable more people to come who are otherwise committed on Sunday mornings or for entire weekends. It was felt that weekly meetings will give more continuity to the group. If you are interested in coming, please call Susan Cater at 293-3465 any evening. ROTC Ball Tickets are now on sale for WCU's first-ever military ball, to be held April 7 in the Grandroom of Hinds University Center. The ball, a formal dinner-dance in keeping with military tradition, will begin at 7 p.m. with the custom of mixing the punch. Dinner, featuring prime rib of beef, will be served at 7:30. The after-dinner speaker will be Brigadier General Hubert M. Leonard, deputy adjutant-general for the State of North Carolina. Music will be provided by Greenscreek, a popular local band. The ball will continue until 1 a.m. Seating will be limited to 350 persons, and an early sellout is expected. Attire will be dress uniforms for military attendees, and black tie for civilians. Tickets cost $7 per person, and reservations may be made by calling the WCU department of military science at 227-7438. The ball will be the final event in WCU's ROTC Day, which will include a parade, demonstrations of survival techniques and rappelling, and a fancy drill team competition. Director named R.
