  • Energy Fair Sat. From Page 3 received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Former North Carolina state senator Charles H. Taylor, will talk at 2 p.m. on "Energy Conservation in Public and Private Buildings" and other topics. Taylor has served as chairman of the North Carolina Energy Conservation Subcommittee. "Fireplace Efficiency" will be the discussion topic of Dr. Allen M. Moore at 3 p.m. Dr. Moore's 1'li.D is from the University of Texas at Austin. He works as an associate professor of biology at WCU. At 3;30 p.m., Larry McGee will talk on "Using Low Grade Wood as a Fuel Source in the Mountains." The North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Development employes McGee. The Fair will also feature two movies. They are titled "Oil! Spoil!—Patterns in Pollution" and "the 1 rails Alaskan Pipeline." Exhibits will be on display. The Energy Conservation Fair is funded by the League of Women voters of North Carolina through a grant from the League of Women Voters of the United States and the U.S. Department of Energy. A related program will be "Energy in North Carolina, Present and Future." The program will be held at Monday night's forum on April 17 at 7 p.m. at Hoey Auditorium. Both programs are free to the public. Discipline teachers! What should a classroom teacher do if she is threatened by a student? This question and others involving classroom discipline will be addressed on April 17 and 24 in two satellite-delivered workshops on " JTeacher Values and Discipline" for junior and senior high school teachers. Problems such as disruptions, defiance and cheating base become major areas that teachers deal with dailv. Investigations have shown that the way a teacher handles his or her classroom can provoke or prevent discipline problems. Each workshop will consist of a videotaped portion with specific incidents that the viewer must find a solution for and an interactive session with experts from the Field answering questions. The first workshop, entitled, "Problems in Discipline" will be presented Monday from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at Southwestern Technical Institute, Vocational Building, Room 129-130. Film segments will explore teacher values and attitudes as they relate to various discipline problems. These segments will present disciplinary APRIL 13, 1978/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/PAGE 15 encounters between students and teachers and asks tor possible solutions. The second workshop, "Dealing With Defiance." will be broadcast April 24 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Various discipline situations portraying students defying teach ers will start the discussion. Panelists ask \iewers for possible solutions or ways to deal with discipline problems and answer questions from the field.
