S. Edwards, left last week to enter Mars Hill college. Others going with him were LeVerne Rush and Kent Brooks of Clyde and Walter Lowe. * * * Miss Dorothy Mease left Tuesday to return to Berry college, Mt. Berry, Ga., where she will be a senior this year, after spending her vacation here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Way Mease of route 2. She was employed at the naval office in -Macon, Ga., during the summer. Miss Thelma Higgins has re- turned after spending the week* end in Atlanta and Marietta, Gal where she visited relatives. Wilson. * # * Misses Flora Murray and Ruth Willis of Winston-Salem were called here Sunday by the death of the former's uncle, Tom P Jimison. Bishop Promoted To Sergeant Charles K. Bishop who is stationed at Harlingen, Texas, air base, has recently been promoted to sergeant, it was learned here. Sgt. Bishop was a member of the 30th Signal Company here for six years, before entering service. He has been stationed at Columbus, until recently when he was transferred to his Texas base. He is married to the former Miss Grace Hicks of Canton, and was employed by the Union Clothing store when he enlisted in the air corps. A chicken drinks 2 pounds of water for each pound of feed eaten. Waterers must be kept filled despite the fact that it is almost an endless job. T-4 Gaddy Patient At Moore General Technician Fourth Grade Ben B. Gaddy, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Gaddy of Waynesville route 2, is now at Moore General hospital, after spending 22 months in New Guinea, Guam, and the Philippines. He enlisted in service August 1943, and lias been awarded the Good Conduct medal, Combat badge and three battle stars. His daughter, Miss Beatrice Gaddy, resides at Lake Junaluska. Mrs. Esther Smathers CaDps of Brevard spent Sunday here, the guest of her brother, M. K. Smathers and family. Seeley is a patient at the Norburn hospital for treatment. Master Oscar Tally underwent an appendicitis operation at the Haywood County hospital. The' Canton chapter, Women of the Moose, held the regular meeting Tuesday evening with a good attendance. Plans were discussed for the Moose lodge meeting in Asheville Thursday night which is to be an open meeting.' All ^members who are interested in gbing are asked to be at the local meeting Tuesday night, when final arrangements are to be made. AMERICAN LEGION MEETS The regular monthly meeting of the Varner-Rhinehart Post 61, American Legion, will be held Monday evening at 8 o'clock at the Moose lodge hall.
