Committee will begin their drive to nominate about 10 candidates for their third annual award. The committee is headed by Dr. Gat) I'oole ot the chemistry department. | former recipient ol the Distinguished leathers Award. There yyill be around 13 faculty members and about the same number ot students selected from different honor societies. I lie committee's job is to nominate teachers who have proven to their students and to other member* ot the faculty thai they are dedicated to their job of educating, are highly qualified, and are successful in reaching their pupils. Students will have a voice in who yyill receive the awards. Ballot boxes yy ill be plated in the University Center all next yyeek and Students are urged to vote for tin- professors thai they feel have excelled in their jobs. I eachers receiving the most votes yy ill be matched up the the majority votes from the faculty, and around ten finalists will be chosen. The final selection will be left to the chancellor. In the last two years, three teachers received the award each time. Presentation by the finalists of their philosophies of leaching and prey ions accomplishments* are factors involved in the chancellor's decision. The committee will consist of prey ious yy inners of the award and the same number of students. There will also be faculty members from all schools and class levels. During the course of selection, members of the committee yyill attend nominated instructors'* classes and observe technique, student interest, and other aspects. In tin- committee's final nominations, the student members will have the most influence on the outcome. In addition to receiving the Distinguished Teachers Ayvard plaque, there will be several oilier rewards as part of the honor. The selected teachers yyill each have a $250 scholarship award in his name ami the same amount in his pocket. Abortion Monday Forum topic "Abortion: Decisions ami Responsibilities" yyill be the iopn ol the University, Forum for Contemporary Issues .11 7 p.m. February 27 in Hoey auditorium. I auric I lien Rubin, ihe director ol community relations for an abortion and family planning clinic in Atlanta, vyill he ihe main speaker. Sharon Jacques, an .issisianl professor of nursing at WCU, also will speak. Ihe program yyill include a film and a 45-minute discussion period, ami will focus on ihe problem of deciding between an unwanted child or an abortion and accepting the responsibility of that decision. Ms. Rubin said her presentation yyill not emphasize ihe pros and cons ot abortion.
