You stagger down the hall to the Wondrous Soft Drink Machine. After counting out four nickels, or two dimes, or some other combination thereof, and after attempting to get all the coins in the proper slot, the machine lets you have it. The cup dispensing mechanism promptly fails, said cup lands on its side in the place where it's supposed to be upright, and Coke (or some unknown substitute) dribbles all over the floor. How many times has it happened to you? In addition to the rage of the student/victim of the above episode, health officials weren't too thrilled about the sticky goo all over the floor under the machines either. A solution to the whole mess has been instituted on campus, as you may have noticed, with the appearance of many new Coke machines, which dispense Coca-Cola in cans, and for 25 cents, instead of the usual 30. According to Dr. Glenn Stillion, vice-chancellor for student development, the new machines will eliminate many problems associated with the old, less reliable machines, and will also represent a Financial boost to the economy of the dorms on campus. Dr. Stillion explained that the proceeds from the new machines will amount to about $5,000 per semester, and will be divided up among the dorms according to the number of residents in each. The machines are owned by Coca-Cola, and they have furnished a man to maintain them daily, who will probably be on campus every day. Dr. Stillion advises that any student having trouble with the machines should report it to the dorm director if in a dorm, or in any other building the complaint should be taken to the dean's office in that building. Menze represented in Greenville show Ray Menze, assistant professor of art at WCU, is among the artists represented in the annual Southeastern Photographic Competion at the Greenville County Museum of Art in Greenville, S.C. Mcnze's photo, titled "Ritual Mask," is black and white and is among 71 works by 53 artists in seven Southeastern states. The show, jurored by John Menapace, photographer at Duke University, is open to the public through October 2. Menze came to WCU in 1972. He teaches design and photography. He holds the bachelor of design degree from the University of Florida, a master's degree from the University of Kentucky, and is working on the Ph.D. degree at Florida State University. gg©(gj©© WG3D0© Located It i.'iles South Of Campus on HV7Y 10?JaA*' Hours - 8: .30 to StOoJJJ^ Monday - Saturday^-.
