  • Page 8 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Thursday, October 30, 1975 CAROLINIAN NEWSBRIEFS & This Thursday, the Eckankar International Students Society of WCU will sponsor an introductory lecture featuring Shaun de Warren, Eckankar area representative of England. The lecture will be concerned with soul travel, karma and reincarnation, dreams and God realization. This will be Mr. de Warren's last lecture before returning to London. This free lecture will be in Cherokee Room at 7:30. The public is cordially invited. Dr. Jeff Neff has resigned his position as faculty advisor to the Outing Club. Citing increasing academic commitments. Dr. Neff, a member of the Western Carolina University Department of Geology, told the club he was unable to participate in club functions. He said in a letter to club members he was burdened with departmental commitments and research, but hoped the club would continue to grow and expand. The WCU Health Careers Club will hold an organizational meeting on Nov. 6, at 7p.m. in classroom 1 of Moore Hall. There will be guest speakers and refreshments. All health related majors and interested persons are urged to attend. An exhibition of paintings by Joe Strother and sculpture by John Kehoe, both members of the art department faculty at the University of Georgia, will open with a public reception Sunday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m. in the art gallery in Carol Grotnes Belk Building. The paintings are done in acrylics, ink and graphite, and the sculptures are cast bronzes ranging in size from small reliefs to about five feet overall. Dr. Strother holds the Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, and Kehoe holds the master's degree from the University of Michigan. Both artists have impressive lists of exhibits and professional activities throughout the South. The exhibition is sponsored by the WCU Lectures, Concerts, and Exhibitions Committee, Admission is free, and the gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2-4 p.m. on Sundays. There will be a meeting, Nobember 4 in Killian 104 at 4p.m., for anyone that is interested in doing a Third Hand participation experience over Christmas break. The October meeting of AFT Local 2437 has been scheduled for 5:00 p.m. today in McKee 118. Mr. Philip McKeaney, executive director of the N. C. State Federation of Teachers, AFT/ AFL-CIO, will speak about the organization and answer questions. Potential members and other interested persons are invited to attend.
