Valyocsik, assistant professor of chemistry at WCU, wUl participate in a chemistry research News Briefs On July 5, the UCB is holding a bar-b-que cookout on the University Center lawn. Students may eat supper free, non- students wUl be charged 50 £, A bus trip to Cherokee is being sponsored by the UCB on July 9 to see the outdoor drama, "Unto These HUls." Tickets are $4. The UCB is planning a bus trip to see a double hitter between the Atlanta Braves and the San Francisco Giants in Atlanta on July 18. Tickets are $6.50 per person, which pays for the bus trip and the ticket to the games. Deadline for reserving a seat is 5 p.m. on June 30, program at the University of Colorado June 14 through August 20 along with five other college teachers. The program, funded by a $13,630 grant from the National Science Foundation, is under the direction of Dr. Stewart J. Strlckler, CU associate professor of chemistry. The program is for teachers from colleges where there is little opportunity for research. Participants spend 10 weeks working In the research laboratories of CU chemistry faculty. Thus they are able to become acquainted with latest developments in their field, gain experience working In the laboratory and develop projects which they can continue at their home Institutions in collaboration with undergraduate students. The six attending the conference wUl work with the following CU chemistry faculty: Dr. Bert Tolbert, biochemis try; Dr. Robert Shapiro, Dr. Alfred Hassner and Dr. Charles DePuy, organic chemistry; chemistry and Strickler, physical chemistry.
