The parade, beginning at Memorial Stadium, will consist of 15 floats, two high school bands, WCU marching band, clowns and horses and riders. Detective films ^ IXjring Winter Quarter the English Department will again offer its literature and films course, English 3389. This general interest, large enrollment course counts as an advanced elective and is open to any student who has completed the sophomore literature requirement. The course next quarter will concentrate on detective novels and films, with particular attention being given to the development of the detective movie. The class will meet in Forsyth Auditorium on Tuesday and Thursday at 1p.m. for lectures and discussion, while the movies will be shown during a laboratory session from 1 to 3p.m. on Wednesdays. A $5.00 laboratory fee will be collected at pre-registration to cover the cost of renting the nine movies; if seats are available, visitors can see the movies for $1.00 each. Prospective class members desiring further details should read the full course description posted outside McKee 206 or talk with the course coordinator, D.-. Jim Nicholl, in that office. Movies scheduled are (an asterisk indicates the novel will also be read): Jan. 14—M, starring Peter I>orre Jan. 21—The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, with Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce ♦Jan. 28—The Maltese Falcon, starring Humphrey Bogart *Feb. 4—The Big Sleep, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall Feb. ll~North by Northwest, starring Cary Grant, directed by Alfred Hitchcock Feb. 18—The Third Man, starring Or son Welles and Joseph Cotton *Feb. 25—Intruder in the Dust, based on the William Faulkner novel ♦Mar. 3—The Alphabet Murders, starring Tony- Randall, Anita Ekberg, Robert Morley, based on an Agatha Christie novel Mar. 10—Touch of Evil, starring Or son Welles, Charlton Heston Summer program in Jamaica I The Department of Biology is considering the possibility of offering a program of. courses on the tropical Caribbean island of Jamaica next summer. As presently envisioned, three courses would be offered: Plant Kingdom (Biol. 2601), Phycology (Biol. 4654 biology of algae), and Mycology (Biol. 4552 or biology of fungi). All three courses would be taught concurrently during a six-week period (June 26- August 6). The laboratory component of each course will involve considerable field work with the rich tropical land and marine flora. The total cost for each student is presently estimated at $1200, but this is subject to slight upward or considerable downward revision as enrollment and other factors become better known. This total cost will include all trans - portation expenses, tooi, lodging, and tuition. If you are interested in enrolling in this program this coming s;unm;r, ;v.
