Cullowhee Baptist Church Celebrates Sesquicentennial The observance of the Cullowhee Baptist Chursch's sesquicentennial, marking one hundred fifty years on its present location, begins Friday evening with a 7:30 p.m. service. The speaker will be the Rev. Fred Forester, a former pastor of the church. In addition to the Cullowhee pastorate, Mr. Forester has served churches in Texas, and Louisiana, and was Brotherhood and R.A. Secretary of the Louisiana Baptist Convention for six years. He has shared in missions to Nigeria to organize Royal Ambassador work and in evangelistic missions to Jamaica and Poland. He has been widely recognized for this work, and was listed in "Who's Who in America, South and Southwest", 1967 and 1969. The service Friday will include music by the church choir and a quartet composed of granddaughters of the Foresters. On Saturday evening at 7:20 p.m, the speaker will be the Rev. Several newer and older church members will make brief appearances in historical vignettes depicting typical and significant episodes in the life of the church. Following the pageant, there will be a covered-dish fellowship dinner, including the informal sharing of memories related to the history of the church. On Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. another former pastor, the Rev. J. Alex Herring, will team with his wife in leading a mission study, "Passport to People". Mr. Herring has served churches in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Georgia. Born in China, he later was appointed a missionary by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission board, and returned to serve in Chengehow, Liuchow, and later in Taiwan. Following each of the evening events there will be a period of fellowship and refreshments in the church fellowship hall. The Sesquicentennial weekend is to coincide with Western Carolina University's Homecoming weekend in the knowledge that many persons returning to the campus community have had past associations with the Cullowhee Baptist Church. A church historical exhibit will be placed in the building for viewing during the weekend. FROM Page 9 Northfield Minnesota Raid," Speculation has always been widespread concerning the life and exploits of the notorious outlaw, Jesse James. Much of it is myth, but then it is a peculiarly American trait to revere those men of the Old West who lived and died by the law of the gun. Was Jesse a misguided lad, or did he really have a "mean streak?" Supposedly based on true facts concerning one of James' last big capers, the movie stars Robert Duvall as James, and Cliff Robertson as Cole Younger. Robertson spent a full year developing his role for the film.
