  • Leave Dixie System at 6:30 A. M. with canteen and food for one meal. Round trip driving distance, 105 miles. Hiking distance about 6 miles. Leaders: BROOKS D. DRAIN (3-8089) CLARA GARTRELL (3-3131) JUNE 23 and 24 RAMSEY FORK CASCADES It is of prime importance to note that this bike is to be conducted in what is destined to be a non-tourist area, for the preservation of which our Club should be thankful. This particular date was selected in anticipation that sufficient water would be in the stream for the Cascades to act up—or down—if you would be technical. Heretofore the matter of automobile roads has been a serious drawback to conducting hikes in the Greenbrier section, but this condition has been improved, and we should lose no time in that respect. This is not a difficult trip, and it differs from others in that our main interest has to do with Ramsey Fork and its immediate surroundings, rather than with climbing a mountain. We will begin the hike at Greenbrier altitude, 1807 feet, and follow the Little Pigeon to its confluence with the Ramsey Prong, which we then follow to the Cascades. The altitude of the Cascades is 4740 feet—about the same as Chimney Tops. Leave Dixie System at 12 Saturday. Round trip driving distance 100 miles. Round trip hiking distance 14 miles. Come prepared to camp out one night. Bring camping equipment and food for three meals. Leaders: NINA SHIPE (6-1517) LUCIEN GREENE (3-8811) 29
